<p><i>This article was originally published on February 26, 2024</i></p> <p><span class="p-body">On Friday, February 23rd, the Center for Global Affairs (CGA) Initiative for the Study of Emerging Threats (ISET) commenced&nbsp;its 9th Annual International Strategic Negotiation Exercise centered on the South China Sea, in collaboration with the US Army War College.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">The International Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise (ISCNE)&nbsp;is a two-day modified version of the War College’s International Fellows Strategic Crisis Negotiation Exercise, and is designed to expose a curated cohort of Master's Degree students to the processes and complexities inherent in the execution of international diplomacy and strategic-level negotiations. These negotiations encompass both international and intra-national dimensions, featuring global and regional implications. Invitations were extended to Masters and graduate students from selected International Affairs programs in the New York City area.</span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><span class="p-body">ISCNE aims to simulate a real-world endeavor to negotiate the peaceful resolution of an authentic conflict or security dilemma. In the past, students in the Center for Global Affairs have facilitated&nbsp;negotiations over crises spanning from the Arctic, Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, Jammu-Kashmir, and the Korean Peninsula. In the current year, the US Army War College presented a relevant crisis unfolding in the South China Sea.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">The event offers a distinctive opportunity for participating students to gain firsthand insights into the mechanisms&nbsp;of international negotiations, transcending the boundaries of their specific areas of interest. Furthermore, it serves as an exceptional platform for networking with individuals affiliated with the US Army War College, as well as faculty and graduate students from the New York City area.</span></p>
