Admissions Requirements

Application materials

You must hold a US high school diploma or equivalent at the time of your enrollment.

You must submit transcripts from all high schools and colleges you have attended, even those from which you did not graduate. Your application is not complete and will not be eligible for review until your transcripts have been uploaded. You may upload unofficial transcripts as part of your application for admission; however, if you are admitted, you will be required to provide your official, final transcripts before beginning your classes. Your prior academic institutions must submit the final, official transcripts directly to NYU SPS, electronically or by mail.

Your resume should demonstrate relevant experience, skills, or interest in your chosen field of study. Be sure to highlight your involvement and leadership within your community.


Include extracurricular activities such as volunteer work, student clubs, leadership roles, full-time or part-time employment, internships, and college prep. Focus on showing sustained commitment and leadership in a few extracurricular activities, rather than simply listing many.

  • Your personal statement is your opportunity to tell us about your academic and professional aspirations, share your unique background and experiences, and explain why NYU SPS will enable you to achieve your goals.

  • Letters of recommendation tell us more about your academic potential, character, and professional experience from the people who know you best. Recommenders should be academic or professional references, such as a former teacher or supervisor.

Additional requirements for international students

Applicants who did not complete their high school diploma or associate degree at an institution where English is the language of instruction must submit an English language assessment score. We accept the TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, Pearson Test of English (PTE), or Cambridge English (Academic Test).

Test scores are valid for two years from the exam date. If your scores are older than two years, you will be required to retake the exam.

Application Deadlines

All submitted applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Our goal is to release admission decisions by the specified date associated with each application deadline for complete applications. While you may submit an application before all materials are complete, your application will be reviewed when all required documents have been received. We strongly encourage applicants to apply early and carefully review all application requirements to ensure timely submission of all necessary materials.

International students who require a student visa are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by the earlier deadlines. This recommended timeline allows sufficient time for visa processing.

NYU SPS holds Instant Decision Days for DAUS bachelor’s and associate degree applicants on a monthly basis throughout the year.

An admissions officer will provide you with an application decision during the event, and you will have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor to review your eligibility for transfer credits. You must submit your application two days prior to the event to have it processed in time.

The Office of Admissions at NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) is dedicated to guiding prospective students through the application process. Our goal is to ensure that students are well-informed and prepared to make the best decisions about their education. The admissions process is designed to be straightforward and efficient, with a focus on providing personalized support to each applicant.

To apply to NYU SPS, prospective students must submit a completed application, which includes transcripts and a personal statement. International students may also be required to submit additional documentation, such as English language proficiency test scores. Our admissions team carefully reviews each application to ensure that applicants meet the necessary criteria for admission.

Once an application is submitted, our admissions team will review it and make a decision. If an applicant is accepted, they will receive an offer of admission, which includes information about the program they have been accepted into, as well as any additional requirements or next steps.

Yes. NYU SPS welcomes transfer students into all its undergraduate programs. NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies accepts students straight from other colleges or adult learners who have taken a break from academics and want to complete their undergraduate degrees. We make it easy for credits you have earned to count toward an NYU SPS degree. Transfer up to 80 credits for a bachelor’s degree and 30 for an associate’s degree. We’ll determine how to make the best use of eligible transfer credits and provide you with a comprehensive degree completion plan.

The NYU BS degrees in Real Estate, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Management, and Sport Management accept up to 64 credits from students transferring from other colleges and universities.

NYU SPS welcomes transfer students from other colleges and universities as well as students who hold credits from other colleges and universities but have taken time away from higher education for any reason. Academic Advisors can provide guidance and support throughout the transfer process, including evaluating transfer credits and providing information about our programs and services.

Transfer applicants complete the same application as other candidates for NYU SPS DAUS degrees. We do not require standardized tests like the SAT or ACT and do not charge an application fee. Upon admission we will promptly evaluate your transcript and work with you to be sure as many of your previously-earned college credits as possible will count toward your new program.

The Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS) at NYU SPS evaluates candidates' applications holistically and does not set a minimum GPA. Complete your applications materials promptly and register to join one of Instant Decision Days to get our decision on the spot. If you are seeking an NYU SPS associate degree and your high school GPA is 2.8 or better, you may qualify for our Guaranteed Admission program. Yes, our Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS) welcomes many adult undergraduates who are transferring from other high education institutions or who are returning to school to complete an associate or Bachelor's degree they started earlier. We offer the flexibility that adults often need to balance work, family and education. We offer fully online degrees as well as the ability to mix in-person and online courses if you need that. Attend full or part-time, in the days or evenings. Transfer up to 80 credits for a Bachelor's degree and 30 for an associate degree. Our professional advising team helps you make the best course choices to advance your career ambitions and our project-based learning will help you graduate with evidence that you are ready for the workplace.

Yes, if you're interested in taking courses to gain further knowledge in a specific area without applying to a degree program, or if you plan to transfer course credits to another college, you may apply as a non-degree-seeking student. Review the admissions criteria for non-degree students above.

Yes, all Associate degree programs and our BA in Social Sciences, BS in Leadership and Management, and BS in Information Systems and Technology programs can be completed entirely online. Online courses are an integral part of the NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies educational experience, and, if you choose to pursue online study, our advisors can help you to develop an academic plan that balances your work and family obligations with the flexibility provided through online learning.

We offer Instant Decision Days monthly for applicants to meet with an admissions counselor and receive a decision on their application during the event. Tuition and Financial Aid

Our Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies Bachelor's degrees are priced lower than other Bachelor's at NYU and similar schools. Students who start in the spring in one of our associate degrees may be eligible to complete it with no out-of-pocket tuition costs and then continue automatically in the second half of a Bachelor's program without reapplying or losing credits earned previously. The Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies at NYU SPS offers the most affordable pathways to an NYU Bachelor's degree. Our associate degrees are comparably priced to community colleges, and eligible students who start in an associate degrees in the spring term, attend tuition-free. Continue automatically into one of our DAUS Bachelor's degrees without reapplying or losing any earned credits. Application Process

Applicants to our Associate and Bachelor's degrees must have completed some college credit in order to apply to the summer or fall semesters. Applicants who have not completed any college coursework are welcome to apply to the spring semester.

Guaranteed admission allows qualified applicants to be automatically accepted into select NYU SPS associate and Bachelor's degree programs if they apply by the final deadline. For eligibility, see the Guaranteed Admission Program page.

In accordance with NYU's sustainability efforts, the NYU School of Professional Studies only accepts electronically submitted documents. Recommenders should be encouraged to use the online recommendation form on your application to avoid processing delays.

Academic transcripts may be delivered directly from your undergraduate institution in one of two manners:

 

  • Using an electronic delivery service (ie. Parchment, E-Scripts, National Student Clearinghouse).

Transcripts and Recommendation Letters

To be considered official, application materials must be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the institution, testing service, or recommender.

For a transcript to be considered final official, it must be received directly from the university, have all final grades, and have a degree conferral date.

Unofficial transcripts can be submitted, for application review purposes, electronically by either the applicant or the institution. If you're admitted based on an unofficial transcript and wish to enroll and register for coursework, you'll be required to submit your official transcript that shows your degree conferral date prior to the end of your first term of enrollment.

Yes. In order to conduct a complete and holistic review of an application, the Office of Admissions needs to evaluate transcripts from all institutions previously attended.

Bachelor’s and associate degree applicants: Yes, the high school transcript is a requirement for admission to verify eligibility to be enrolled in a bachelor’s program. However, if you currently hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or will by the semester of entry, a high school transcript will not be required.

For international Bachelor’s and associate degree applicants:
Yes. A high school transcript is required to complete your application. Please note that applicants who studied at an international institution will need to provide a course-by-course evaluation by a recognized foreign educational credential verified by one of the following organizations.

All applicants who studied at an international institution must be able to demonstrate that they have completed the equivalency of a US high school diploma and for transfer credit eligibility into our programs. 

When requesting an evaluation, please request a “course-by-course evaluation.” All transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized foreign educational credential evaluation from the list below.

Recommendations must come from either academic or professional sources. We encourage you to share some information with your recommendation providers about the program to which you are applying, so they can tailor their recommendation appropriately. We strongly recommend that you provide your recommender’s professional or academic email address when requesting your letters.

Should You Submit a Letter of Recommendation?

Your recommender will be required to submit a recommendation using the online submission form found within the application portal. You will need to input their email address in the recommendation section of your application and your recommender will automatically receive an email from NYU containing a link and instructions on how to submit the online recommendation.

No. Standardized tests such as the ACT or SAT are not required to apply for our DAUS undergraduate degree programs.

If you completed your entire high school diploma or associate degree in the U.S. or in an institution where the medium language of instruction is English, you can waive the English Language Assessments.

After Receiving a Decision

If you're accepted, you may request a deferral of your enrollment through the online enrollment form. Deferrals are typically granted only under extenuating circumstances and requesting a deferral does not automatically guarantee one. You may request a deferral up to one year from your original acceptance term.

Students who have been denied admission will not be permitted to reapply to any program at the School of Professional Studies for one academic year (this includes applying as a non-matriculant student).

Log into your application portal and click “Reply Form.” The online enrollment form is also accessible via your admissions letter.

As noted on your acceptance message, the tuition deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to your first term's tuition when you enroll. Your acceptance is only final once we receive your non-refundable deposit. The preferred methods of payment are credit card or electronic check.

If those options are not available to you, you may mail your tuition check or money order by your deposit deadline payable to "New York University" at the following address:

The check or money order must be in US funds only; include your University ID number and Enrollment Term in the memo section.
