However, in her mid-20s, she decided to make a bold career shift, setting her sights on New York City to break into the publishing scene. She chose NYU for its prestigious faculty and its location at the heart of the global publishing industry.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">Being an NYU student provided Houghton with ample opportunities to connect within her field. "NYU is a great immersive, hands-on experience that has allowed me to make connections within my field, network with industry icons, and build meaningful friendships," she says. Through the program, Houghton has volunteered for industry events and secured internships at a Big Five publisher. The professors, who are also working professionals in the industry, have played a crucial role in her journey. "They are kind, warm, and willing to help you launch your career," she shares.</span></p>
