That's why the <a href="/content/sps-nyu/explore/degrees-and-programs/bs-in-leadership-and-management.html" target="_blank">BS in Leadership and Management Studies</a> program prioritizes bringing students right into the fold to learn from business leaders working in a variety of sectors. Maurice Moore is a current student who recently shared his experience with us, giving a glimpse into his daily life at NYU SPS.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Persistence, ambition, and a genuine love for NYC have fueled Maurice Moore's journey to NYU. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Moore spent much of his childhood immersed in the sights and sounds of the city, but later moved with his family to the suburbs of Nassau County. Having experienced both sides of the coin—urban and suburban—influenced the way Moore&nbsp;sees the world. He shares, &quot;Growing up in both these diverse environments has shaped my appreciation for the city's unique blend of cultures and experiences.&quot;</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Moore's academic and career path is one of many turns. Initially enrolling at Hofstra University, he decided to pursue a career in producing and moved to Los Angeles, where he spent three years working in set design and commercial post-production. After ten years, Moore enlisted in the US Army, where he found new opportunities through educational benefits.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">&quot;I graduated Magna Cum Laude with an associate's degree in Accounting from Nassau Community College,&quot; he explains. NYU had always been a dream school for Moore, so when he received his acceptance letter in December 2023, he was thrilled to embark on the next step of his journey in the BS in Leadership and Management program.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">As a transfer student at NYU, Moore&nbsp;has had to juggle a lot. Balancing a full-time job, monthly military training, and a full-time student workload has certainly been a challenge. &quot;There are times when my performance at work or in my studies suffers,&quot; he admits, noting that staying organized is key to managing his responsibilities. He has implemented systems to ensure that he doesn't miss any assignments or tasks, despite his busy schedule.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Though his studies are remote, Moore&nbsp;has found ways to connect with other students through group projects and orientations. He's excited to join the <a href="https://gonyuathletics.com/sports/2008/8/11/GEN_0811082303.aspx" target="_blank">NYU Run Club</a> and plans to attend a few club events this semester to build his network within the NYU community.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Moore's military experience has significantly shaped his leadership skills. Recently, within the first month of starting at NYU, Moore&nbsp;was sent to the Army's Basic Leaders course for three weeks. While the added responsibility strained his ability to balance his coursework, it was a valuable opportunity for growth.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">The fundamentals of leadership that he learned in the Army have influenced how he approaches challenges in both his academic and professional life.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Though Moore&nbsp;is currently working as a consultant for Zillow, his passion truly lies in media production. He previously worked as an assistant and licensed salesperson at Douglas Elliman, but his role in the Army as a 46V Combat Cameraman sparked his love for storytelling through photography and videography. &quot;I love capturing life's moments through a lens and sharing the stories of fellow service members,&quot; he explains.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">After graduating from NYU SPS, Moore&nbsp;hopes to combine his background in media production and accounting to pursue a career in entertainment or finance. He is particularly drawn to the intersection of creativity and business, with a passion for documentary filmmaking and photography.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">One of the key strengths Moore has gained from his time at NYU SPS is the ability to stay informed on current events and develop a nuanced understanding of how these events shape society. &quot;Many of the courses require us to delve into both domestic and international issues,&quot; he says, noting that the diverse perspectives from his professors and classmates have helped broaden his understanding of the world. This exposure has prepared him to tackle the rapidly evolving challenges of both the business and entertainment sectors.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">When it comes to career advice and inspiration, Moore&nbsp;doesn't have to look far. &quot;My mom is a great sounding board and has always been supportive of my ideas and aspirations,&quot; he shares. As a self-described stubborn Taurus, Moore&nbsp;values his mother's insights and advice, especially when tackling the challenges of balancing his roles in the Army, his studies, and his career.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Moore's advice for new students is rooted in patience and persistence. &quot;Take one step at a time,&quot; he says.
