<p>Bertoni, an alum of Hunter College with a major in English, has had a diverse and impactful career. After graduating, he spent a few years working in journalism before pursuing further education at Columbia University. There, he attended both the Graduate School of Journalism and Columbia Law School. His career includes extensive experience working for law firms and legal departments of major companies in New York, such as HarperCollins Publishers, before becoming the general counsel of <i>The New Yorker</i>. When NYU offered him the opportunity to teach a class on <i>Publishing and Internet Law </i>at SPS, he eagerly accepted.</p>

<p>Bertoni's passion for teaching and genuine interest in the publishing industry drive his dedication. He shares, &quot;I love teaching and talking to students. I also care deeply about the industry, and hope that I'm playing a small part in educating future leaders about the importance of legal issues in publishing.&quot;</p> <p>Students in the MS in Publishing Program at NYU SPS are known for their curiosity, engagement, and commitment. Despite these challenges, Bertoni finds it rewarding to discuss these changes with students, who often provide valuable insights and perspectives.</p> <p>Rather than focusing on a single change, Bertoni emphasizes the multitude of overlapping changes—legal, technological, and business—and the increasing pace at which they occur in the industry. He encourages students to understand the core principles at stake, such as freedom of expression and intellectual property ownership, and to be aware of the competing interests driving these changes.</p>
