Alkashef's journey into the world of translation and interpreting began in Cairo, Egypt, where her passion for languages shaped her academic goals. Armed with an MA in Translation Studies and a PhD in Interpreting Studies from Ain Shams University, Alkashef has established herself as a leader in the field. Her experience as an ATA-certified Arabic-English translator and court interpreter is what led her to NYU SPS, where she now teaches in the MS in Translation and Interpreting program. "A colleague recommended me when she heard they were looking for someone to teach the Principles of Interpreting course, and the rest is history," she reflects.

Having taught translation at Ain Shams University, she discovered the joy of guiding students through their first steps in the field. "It's always a pleasure to introduce students to what soon becomes a lifelong passion and not just a profession," she says. Watching her students grow and navigate their initial challenges has been a rewarding experience that keeps her motivated.
