<p>McKenna Schray, APR, is a clinical assistant professor of public relations at the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS). With a strong background in public relations and a passion for teaching, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students. Before joining NYU, Schray taught at Seton Hall University, where she instructed both undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations and communication.</p> <p>Schray's academic career began with a BA in Public Relations and Journalism, followed by an MA in Public Relations and a PhD in Higher Education Leadership, Management, and Policy from Seton Hall University. Her professional experiences include roles at Shoba, Scholastic, Coyne PR, MTV, and Comedy Central, where she honed her skills in various aspects of public relations and communication.</p>

<p>Schray first began teaching as an adjunct instructor at Caldwell University and Seton Hall University, eventually leading to her current role at NYU SPS. Her diverse professional background, including positions as an associate director for the College of Communication and the Arts and a graduate assistant for the Office of Media Relations at Seton Hall University, has equipped her with a broad perspective on public relations education.</p> <p>Schray's passion for teaching was ignited by a conversation with her academic advisor and mentor, who suggested that she could teach public relations. Over the past decade, she has dedicated herself to becoming a strong educator by earning her doctorate, gaining professional and teaching experience, and exploring research interests. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in student engagement theory and active learning strategies, emphasizing the importance of being an effective communicator and listener.</p>

<p>Schray's approach to teaching is student-centered, focusing on creating an inclusive environment where students feel empowered to become effective communicators and successful public relations practitioners. She utilizes simulations, live polls, discussions, case studies, peer reviews, drawing, and other active learning strategies to engage her students.</p>

She takes pride in her students' achievements and strives to balance her time between teaching, family, and other professional commitments. Her challenge lies in managing these responsibilities while continuously improving her teaching methods and staying current with industry trends.</p>

<p>Outside the classroom, Schray is a mother of three and actively volunteers at her children's Catholic school. She serves as the fundraising chair, raising significant funds for student-centered initiatives, such as a new playground. Schray emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community and leveraging public relations skills for meaningful causes.</p>
