<p>Daniel G. Kelly II is the associate dean and full professor of sports management at the NYU SPS&nbsp;<a href="/content/sps-nyu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/preston-robert-tisch-institute-for-global-sport.html" title="Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport">Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport</a>.&nbsp;Prior to joining NYU, Kelly was associate professor and faculty director of the sports industry management program at Georgetown University. He earned a PhD in Sport Management from The Ohio State University and both an MS in Sports Studies and a BS in Business Administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.</p>

<p><span class="p-body">Kelly believes that having a global mindset is the ultimate differentiator. For instance, during his dozen-plus visits to Qatar as part of the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=749312355431120" target="_blank" title="Josoor Institute's">Josoor Institute's</a> Football and Sports Management diploma program, he has been fortunate to see the country transform its global footprint into an international hub for sporting excellence.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">“Attending the 2022 FIFA World Cup in person changed my life for the better and provided many opportunities for personal reflection on my 10-years' worth of experiences”</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">&quot;The fact that I have friends, colleagues, former students, and business associates in Doha is a testament to my experiences in the country and the role my travels to Qatar have played in not only my professional career but my personal life,” he continued. “I am excited about the future of the country of Qatar and can't wait for my next visit.&quot;</span></p>

<p>Focusing on developing empathy is one piece of advice he would give students as they matriculate into the global sport industry. Issues like racial injustice, gun violence, gender inequality, and geopolitical differences could all be remedied by improved levels of thoughtfulness and care for all human beings.&nbsp; &quot;My belief in bringing empathy to my work as an educator has been a motivating factor for my foundation as a global sport professional,&quot; asserted Kelly.</p> <p>Furthermore, Kelly believes that <a href="https://nowwhat.com/" title="Now What">curiosity</a> is the key to students embracing technology and the ever-evolving changes that are a part of the business world. &quot;Consistency [in] embracing technology is the value-add that will allow students to remain up-to-date and relevant in their respective fields,&quot; he concluded.</p>

<p>Earlier this year, Kelly stepped into his new role as associate dean at the Tisch Institute for Global Sport and couldn't be more excited. He shares, &quot;[This]&nbsp;is a proud moment for me and my family. Especially with love and support from my wife, Melanie, and son, Xavier,&nbsp;as my foundation, I can bring a servant-leader mindset to the role as I seek to support our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.&quot;</p> <p>Along with sharing his enthusiasm, he is looking forward to bringing his vision to life in his new role.
