Preparing for a New Era of Sports Leadership

<p><span class="p-body">From a young age, Matthew Gaeta was deeply involved in the world of sports, playing baseball, basketball, and hockey in his hometown of Lincroft, NJ. His passion for sports extended into his educational and professional life, leading him to a remarkable career that has been recognized on a national level.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">After earning a <a href="/content/sps-nyu/explore/degrees-and-programs/bs-in-sport-management.html" title="BS in Sport Management">BS in Sport Management</a> in 2017, Gaeta founded <a href="https://gaetasportsmgt.com/" title="Gaeta Sport Management (GSM) ">Gaeta Sport Management (GSM) </a>and became a Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) Certified Agent. Recently, he made Sports Business Journal's (SBJ) "2020 New Voices Under 30" list of rising professionals within the sports industry and was awarded "Sports Agent of the Year" for 2020 by the sports media outlet PGSports.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">We know that Gaeta's story is just beginning. Here's a peek at his path to recognition.</span></p>
A Rising Star at NYU
<p><span class="p-body">Gaeta's journey into the sports industry began at the <a href="/content/sps-nyu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/preston-robert-tisch-institute-for-global-sport.html" title="NYU SPS Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport">NYU SPS Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport</a>, where he pursued a BS in Sport Management. This decision was influenced by his love for sports and a desire to understand the business behind the games. NYU SPS provided him with both academic rigor and real-world applications, setting the stage for his future success.</span></p>
SPS provided me with the invaluable opportunity to learn from professors who worked with major organizations such as ESPN, the US Olympic Committee, and the National Basketball Association."
<p><span class="p-body">He was not only a student but also a student-athlete, balancing his academic responsibilities with his passion for baseball as part of the NYU team.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">During his time here, Gaeta was distinguished by his academic achievements, being named to the <a href="/content/sps-nyu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/preston-robert-tisch-institute-for-global-sport.html" title="Dean's List">Dean's List</a>, the NYU Student-Athlete President's Honor Roll, the UAA Academic All-Conference team, and receiving the University Honors Scholar/Founders' Day Award. These accolades came with the territory of his dedication and hard work, both in sports and in his studies.</span></p>
Breaking Ground in Sport Management
<p><span class="p-body">After graduation, Gaeta set out to reshape the sports industry. When he founded <a href="https://gaetasportsmgt.com/">Gaeta Sports Management</a> (GSM), he became one of the youngest certified agents in the history of the sport. Under his leadership, GSM now represents 75 professional players, negotiating contracts at major, minor, and international levels. His efforts were instrumental in getting three of his clients onto the MLB 2020 Opening Day roster.</span></p>
Looking to the Future
<p><span class="p-body">Gaeta's hard work and innovative approach to sport management did not go unnoticed. His numerous recognitions have placed him in the esteemed company of sports legends such as Tom Brady and Marshawn Lynch.</span></p>
<p><span class="p-body">But Gaeta is not one to rest on his laurels. He is currently furthering his education at New York Law School's Evening Division program as a Dean's Scholar, preparing himself for even greater achievements in the future. His story is a reminder of the power of dedication, education, and passion in reaching one's goals. We'll be tuned in for the next home run in Gaeta's career.</span></p>
