After studying electrical and computer engineering and computer science at University of Wisconsin - Madison, MS in Sustainability and Global Energy Practice Clinical Assistant Professor Suhail Y Tayeb began his career focused on systems, networks, and infrastructure. Those early pursuits continue to influence the ways he evaluates the built environment today.

After more than two decades as a real estate developer and investor, Tayeb earned a Sloan Master’s in Leadership and Strategy at London Business School. There, he deepened his expertise in private capital, corporate finance, and M&A. Following the program, his work expanded across residential and commercial development, sustainable retrofits, voucher-based housing, and advising family offices on capital strategy and long-term value creation.

As director of the Center for the Sustainable Built Environment at the NYU SPS Schack Institute of Real Estate, Tayeb focuses on the convergence of AI infrastructure, data center development, and sustainable real estate strategy. His work examines how power, fiber, land use, and policy constraints shape capital allocation and development feasibility.

His passion for teaching was fueled by a gap he saw in the industry. “I joined Schack because it is one of the few institutions where professional practice and academic rigor intersect meaningfully,” Tayeb shares.
