At NYU SPS, we are committed to bringing students right into the center of their chosen industries. In the BS in Sport Management program, they have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the heart of global sports, NYC. Peter Dicce is a current student whose path to NYU SPS is global and inspiring. We were excited to catch up with him recently to see how the program is going so far.

A Soft Spot for Sports

Originally from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Peter moved to Abu Dhabi at a young age, spending the next 12 years abroad. Always immersed in sports, soccer was his family's main focus. "I often considered myself the 'black sheep' of the family, as I pursued basketball," Peter reflects. Despite this, sports have always been central to his life. Beyond athletics, he has a passion for the outdoors, taking on challenges like hiking the Presidential Mountain Range in New Hampshire.

Peter's favorite sports memory isn't tied to a professional game or a big event; rather, it's playing pick-up sports with his family. "I've always felt that I connect with them more through sport," he shares, adding that sports have been a platform for building relationships throughout his life.

Embracing Opportunities in New York City

Peter and NYU go way back, as he grew up near the NYU Abu Dhabi campus. "NYU has continuously shaped both my personal and academic growth, making it feel like a natural path forward," he says. One of the aspects that drew him to NYU was the diverse student body and the abundance of study abroad opportunities. He didn't hesitate to take advantage of studying abroad during his first year in the program, a decision he encourages other students to consider.

Once in New York, Peter dove into the opportunities that NYU offers. "NYU is what you make of it," he shares, emphasizing that the university provides countless chances for growth, but it's up to each student to seize them. His time in the BS in Sport Management program has been rewarding, with a well-rounded curriculum at the Preston Robert Tisch Institute for Global Sport that covers various aspects of the industry. This exposure has helped him gain a clearer understanding of which areas he might want to pursue in the future.

Dicce values the practical insights he has gained from professors who bring real-world experience into the classroom. He credits the faculty at NYU SPS with helping him connect with industry professionals.

The professors are incredible resources who genuinely want to help you succeed. These connections have allowed me to build relationships and gain valuable insights from industry leaders."

Events hosted by the school have also given him a chance to engage with leaders in the sports industry, further preparing him for his future career.

Looking Ahead to Making an Impact through Sport

After graduation, Dicce hopes to continue his journey in the sports industry and to use sports as a tool for positive change. He plans to pursue a postgraduate degree and is passionate about creating something impactful that can make a difference in the world. He envisions a future where his work in the industry goes beyond business to make a meaningful impact.

Peter's advice for incoming NYU SPS students is to prioritize relationship-building, both within the school and in the sports industry. He encourages students to connect with their professors and seek out opportunities to meet industry leaders. "These relationships are the key to your future success," he says, stressing the importance of making the most of NYU's resources.
