<p><span class="p-body">Katherine Likourezos, a student in the online <a href="/content/sps-nyu/explore/degrees-and-programs/bs-in-leadership-and-management-studies.html" target="_blank">BS in Leadership and Management Studies program</a> at the NYU SPS <a href="/content/sps-nyu/about/academic-divisions-and-departments/division-of-applied-undergraduate-studies.html" target="_blank">Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS)</a>, lives on Long Island, New York, where she graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy in 2021. During her first year of college, she attended Northeastern University’s Global ConnEXions Program. While enrolled in the virtual program, she realized that her preferred method of education is online learning.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">She transferred to NYU SPS in August 2022 and quickly started engaging with the community, becoming president of the <a href="https://engage.nyu.edu/organization/sps-student-association-for-applied-studies" target="_blank">Student Association for Applied Studies (SAAS)</a>. We were thrilled to sit down with Katherine to learn more about her experience as an online student and what she’s planning for the future.</span></p>

<p><span class="p-body">Katherine’s choice to attend NYU SPS was based on her overwhelmingly positive experience with her admissions officers, who were open to answering all of her burning questions and made her feel at home here.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Studying on campus in person isn’t for everyone, and Katherine’s ears perked up when she heard about the online options at NYU. She adds, “I chose to study in the DAUS program because it is designed for transfer students like myself and because of its fully online programs…and I was pleased to see that DAUS offered online degree completion programs.”<br> </span></p> <p><span class="p-body">With a strong passion for international business, Katherine found her perfect fit in the Leadership and Management program, which offers a concentration in International Business and Global Management. She aspires to work as a business manager in the future and is confident that her experience managing several group projects during her first year of college has prepared her to take her place as a leader.</span><br> </p>

<p><span class="p-body">While some students crave time in a physical classroom with their peers and professors, Katherine finds the asynchronous model of online learning much more impactful. “I find that learning asynchronously is much more enriching. Having to teach myself course material while staying motivated, disciplined, and focused has transformed me into a more successful student,” she says.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">Online learning hasn’t stopped Katherine from taking full advantage of everything SPS has to offer, either. She became the social media chair of the Student Association for Applied Studies (SAA), sharing posts about upcoming events and engaging with peers virtually. “I have enjoyed being a SAAS officer and recently accepted the offer to become the Association’s vice president. Additionally, I attend virtual SPS events to engage with the SPS community,” she adds. Like many other online students, joining clubs and groups on campus is a fantastic way to stay connected to the larger SPS community.</span><br> </p>

<p><span class="p-body">Katherine’s ambition drives her to make the most out of every class and opportunity at NYU SPS. In one of her favorite courses, Professor Valinsky’s Critical Thinking, she learned how to “look beyond the surface of works, and think about what they are revealing while connecting messages and themes in a larger context,” she explains. As she completes her courses, she’s seeing her business-savvy mind flourish in real time.</span></p> <p><span class="p-body">As she completes her courses, Katherine’s sights are set on forming lasting connections within the SPS community.
