For prospective students deciding to complete their degree at the NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies (DAUS), nothing is more valuable than hearing directly from our students about what brought them to DAUS and how they are managing the demands of balancing work, school, and other life commitments.

We spoke with Wanda Bryce, a BA in Social Sciences student at NYU, about her experiences in her program, the challenges she's overcome, and how she makes time for her studies despite having a busy schedule.

Finding Alignment at NYU

With her concentration in Media Studies, Wanda is looking forward to gaining a comprehensive understanding of the media industry, specifically the entertainment and communication sectors. She hopes to pursue a career in the film industry as a screenwriter and director, eventually continuing her education in cognitive psychology at the graduate level.

Wanda came to NYU SPS after hearing about the BA in Social Sciences program from her academic advisor at her previous institution. We're delighted that Wanda chose to call SPS her academic home.

Wanda's Secret to Balancing Work and School

One of Wanda's most pressing challenges has been balancing the demands of work and school. As a full-time employee, she is also taking on the responsibility of full-time studies, which is as difficult as it sounds. Her secret to success? Keeping a planner. "It sounds simple, but it's one of those 'small axes that cut down big trees' kind of thing. My planner helps me strategize and prioritize tasks and projects, stick to deadlines, and allot time for rest," she explains.

Despite facing this challenge, Wanda genuinely enjoys her time in the classroom.

I love that I am being challenged and that I am learning so much. My favorite class is Understanding Media with Professor Chyng Sun. She does an excellent job explaining the material. More importantly, she shows a genuine interest in my well-being as a student and person, and I value that. She (and all my professors) sincerely care about my success!"
