We are delighted to announce that Dr. Katie Beavan, adjunct professor of Human Capital Management, Division of Programs in Business (DPB), has been awarded the prestigious 2021 International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI) Outstanding Dissertation Award, Experimental Category.

Her practitioner-scholar dissertation, "(Re)Writing Women in Organization: Portraits of Afflictions, Tales of Resistances, Hopes for Living Differently," was selected as the winner among distinguished international candidates.

An Empowered Voice in the Organizational Behavior Field

Using an interdisciplinary approach including narrative and poetic discourses, Dr. Beavan represented the emotional experiences of herself and colleagues working in the hypermasculine context of global banking. Her aim was to give women—and all who are othered in the workplace—a voice and to innovate methodologically in the Organizational Behavior field.

In a commitment to praxis, the dissertation also took the form of a social theater piece, which she performed in front of a public audience at the Quick Center for the Arts in Fairfield, CT. As the winner, Dr. Beavan's name will be included in the annual ICQI Conference program starting this year and continuing as the 2021 recipient.
