There's no limit to what our MSIT students can achieve after graduation from the SPS Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts. We sat down with Eva Lizett Schreffler, a Master’s in Translation & Interpreting (MSTI) alum who earned her degree online, to learn more about her and the digital journey she went on while studying at NYU's School of Professional Studies.

Meet Eva

Our SPS students come from all walks of life, each bringing their perspectives to the classroom. For many like Eva, their hobbies and interests intersect with their academic passions. She says, "I am passionate about languages and interpreting. I love to travel and explore other cultures." Her hobbies also include learning specialized terminology in different domains related to court interpreting and eating out at various ethnic restaurants.

Why NYU's SPS?

While shopping around for different MS programs, Eva wanted to find a place where she could leverage her knowledge and experience in court interpreting. At NYU, she found opportunities to meet leading professionals in a variety of industries related to interpreting and translation. The faculty at NYU are top scholars who are dedicated to the profession, which Eva quickly learned would be the key to getting the most out of her studies here.

While pursuing my Master's, I was able to apply the knowledge and insight learned in the classroom directly into the workplace, which helped me earn a promotion during my first semester. Studying with professionals who work in the industries they teach provides for a rich learning experience and guarantees nothing short of an amazing education. The MSTI program has fueled my love for the profession and desire to be a lifelong learner."
Eva's Online Advantage

While seeing students bustling through campus makes our hearts sing at NYU, our online degrees open new doors to learning for many of our students. Eva shares, "The asynchronous modality enabled me to feed off my classmates' sharp and brilliant minds. The forums were intellectually stimulating and encouraged critical thinking and sound writing principles allowing me to improve my writing exponentially while learning about the various aspects of interpreting and translation."

As the world becomes increasingly more digital, we're meeting the moment by finding new ways to keep our online students connected. "The recorded lectures allowed me to learn at my own pace and revisit the material to gain a deeper understanding or to prepare for an assignment. Despite the asynchronous modality, I was able to connect with my classmates and forge meaningful friendships," Eva shared.

Eva's story speaks to the hard work and dedication of our online and in-person students, who enrich their classrooms with a broad set of experiences. As alumni, they're now applying their knowledge in the real world.
