In this eight-week online course, we will look at eight films in which Italy—its towns and cities; its countryside; its coasts; and above all, its people—plays a major role. Most but not all of the films will be Italian films, with a couple of Hollywood films such as Roman Holiday, so that we can think about how Americans have viewed Italy. We may view works by such great directors as Antonioni, Visconti, Rossellini, and Fellini. We will see how they make use of Italy as a setting and talk about the aspects of Italy they interpret.
You'll walk away with
- Familiarity with important and interesting films that feature Italy
- Knowledge about different film genres
Ideal for
- Movie buffs
- All members of the community—working, retired, and in between
