Tech Governance Initiatives Mapped by CGA and UNF
The United Nations Foundation Partners with NYU SPS Students to Help Chart Tech Governance Across Government and the Private Sector.

Practicum Partner: United Nations Foundation (UNF)

The United Nations Foundation (UNF) works closely with the UN to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing humanity. NYU SPS students in our Center for Global Affairs (CGA) programs have been able to partner with the UNF directly through a unique learning opportunity called a Consulting Practicum. In these practicums, students work with the UNF on consulting and research-based projects to advance the organization’s goals.

Most recently, those goals have centered around the UN’s proposed Global Digital Compact. The Compact outlines shared principles across a number of areas, including principles for a free and open digital future for all, closing the digital divide, and regulating artificial intelligence in line with shared global values.

The purpose of this UNF Practicum is to advance information about multilateral and multi-stakeholder digital technology governance initiatives and to support the UN’s work in preparing for a Global Digital Compact.

Students who have participated in the Practicum have worked on a number of related projects including:

Mapping tech governance initiatives developed across sectors (governments, private sector, civil society, technical communities, etc.)

Contributions to a final report that offers insights into types, membership, focus, and representation in this area
