The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYU SPS) MS in Integrated Marketing has earned a STEM designation and will introduce a modified curriculum in Spring 2027, strengthening the program’s integration of marketing strategy, consumer understanding, analytics, and technology. The modifications provide students with deeper specialization and greater flexibility as they prepare to make marketing decisions in an increasingly complex business environment.

“The STEM designation underscores the role of quantitative analysis and technology in marketing education,” said Kathleen Rennie, PhD, Chair of the Integrated Marketing and Communications Department. ”For our Integrated Marketing students, that means connecting evidence to decisions: understanding customers, evaluating campaign performance, testing alternatives, and translating findings into business recommendations. These capabilities complement the strategic and creative thinking central to integrated marketing.”

Eligible international graduates in F-1 status may apply for a 24-month STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension beyond their initial post-completion OPT period. Eligibility and approval depend on federal requirements; NYU’s Office of Global Services provides guidance on individual circumstances.

The Integrated Marketing degree remains 42 credits, with a structure that creates more room for students to pursue their professional interests. Core requirements decrease from 27 to 18 credits, while concentration requirements increase from 12 to 15 credits. Students also complete six elective credits and a three-credit capstone.

Consumer Behavior joins the core, ensuring that every student studies how people make consumption decisions. Alongside Marketing Management, Finance Management, Marketing Research, Database Management and Modeling, and Digital Marketing, it connects the study of customers with the financial, analytical, and technological foundations of marketing practice.

Three concentrations offer distinct pathways. Digital Marketing combines required study in social media and e-commerce with options such as digital advertising and programmatic strategy, influencer marketing, and marketing technology. Marketing Analytics pairs business analytics and experimental design with options in customer analytics, web analytics, and data visualization.

The renamed Brand and Product Management concentration brings product management explicitly into its focus. Required coursework includes brand strategy, brand and product management, and both campaign courses, which move from the shared core into this concentration. Students can further explore areas such as pricing, channel and trade management, or luxury and fashion marketing.

“Our goal is to prepare marketers who can ask the right questions, understand consumers, and use data and technology to make sound decisions,” said Jose Mendoza, Academic Director of the MS in Integrated Marketing Program. “ Our curriculum gives students more room to develop expertise in their chosen field while applying what they learn to the challenges brands and businesses face.”

Additional offerings, introduced in phases, expand opportunities to study artificial intelligence in marketing, marketing technology, and pricing strategy. “Together, these additions give our students more ways to connect emerging tools with enduring questions about customer value, competitive positioning, and marketing effectiveness,” added Rennie. Experiential learning remains part of the program through Global Field Intensives and Real World Experience courses, available within the elective structure. With advice and subject to availability, Integrated Marketing students may also select courses across concentrations or approved graduate offerings elsewhere at NYU.

A new thesis option complements the applied capstone project, giving students a research-focused route to completing the degree. Students choosing the thesis first complete Research Process and Methodology as an elective. Both culminating options provide an opportunity to bring together the knowledge and skills developed throughout the program.
